Volunteer

Hello, and thank you for exploring volunteer opportunities at the Dapplegray library!
Having you in the library means so much–and it is a wonderful way to show students that the library is an important part of our school community. However you choose to share your time here, we thank you for your support!

Here are some ways volunteers can help:

Helping out the kids: During a class visit or a recess period when kids are in the library, help them navigate and explore the library and use library resources. This may be demonstrating how to use a shelf marker, helping them use the online library catalog, encouraging them to explore featured displays or exhibits, or helping them find a book on the shelves.
Shelf maintenance: Straightening books that are falling over and blocking books (bringing the books to the front edge of the shelf).
•General upkeep: Wiping down checked-in books, tabletops, furniture, and dusting shelves.

Specialized volunteering (requires participation in scheduled training):

•Shelving
•Circulation
•Book processing
•Book repairs: Click here for tutorials

Other ways to volunteer:

•Giving book talks
•Leading Makerspace projects
•Sharing with students on special topics
•Reading with kids

If you have a project, a story, or an idea for another activity to share with students, you can call, email, or stop by the library and we can talk about it.

TRAINING FOR NEW VOLUNTEERS

If you think you’d like volunteer in the library working on more specialized tasks, come to our next training. (To work on specialized tasks, participation in a training session will be mandatory for all new volunteers.) We will take about an hour to introduce you to the library, the computer catalog, the library management system, teach you shelving procedures, and the basics of book processing.
Our next training opportunity: October 2024. Date will be announced soon!
